Setting Up POP or IMAP for your Microsoft Email Address

Print this Article
Last Updated: November 1, 2017 10:12 AM

Here's the lowdown: You can retrive email from several Microsoft Email addresses in Outlook. Only one email address can be configured to use Exchange, however. Set up additional email addresses as POP or IMAP accounts.

If you have multiple Exchange email addresses, you may want to add your second and subsequent addresses as POP or IMAP addresses in our Outlook 2007 client. This allows you to retrieve email from a remote server through your email client for multiple Exchange addresses. You can access the email messages in your email account by configuring your email client with our POP or IMAP settings.

To Configure POP or IMAP for Your Microsoft Email Address

  1. Launch Outlook 2007.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.
  3. In the Account Settings window, click New.
  4. If you already have one or more email addresses set up in your Outlook client, select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP, and then click Next.
  5. On the Auto Account Setup page, complete the following:
    Your Name
Enter your name or a name you want to assign to this email address.
    Email Address
    Enter your email address.
    Password and Retype Password
Enter and then re-enter the password for your email address.
    Manually configure server settings
    Select this option.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Select Internet Email to set up your email address as POP or IMAP, and then click Next.
  8. On the Internet Email Settings page, enter the following:
    Your Name
This field should be populated with the name you entered on the Auto Account Setup page.
    Email Address
This field should be populated with the email address you entered on the Auto Account Setup page.
    Account Type
Select either POP3 or IMAP, depending on the type of of account you want to create.
    Incoming Mail Server
Type mail.ex1.secureserver.net for your incoming mail server.
    Outgoing Mail Server
Type smtp.ex1.secureserver.net for your outgoing mail server. (NOTE: This applies to POP3 and IMAP.)
    Username
    Enter your email address.
    Password
Enter the password for your email address.
  9. Click More Settings.
  10. Go to the Outgoing Server tab and select My outgoing server requires authentication.
  11. Go to the Advanced tab and do the following:
    For POP3
For your Incoming Server, if you select This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL), use port 995. If you do not have SSL enabled, use port 110. For your Outgoing Server, whether or not you select SSL, you can use port 25, 80, or 3535.

NOTE: When you POP your email it downloads from the server to your email client. If you want to keep a copy of your email messages on the server, in the Delivery section, select "Leave a copy of messages on the server." To properly manage your storage space, we highly recommend that you indicate if you want to remove messages after a certain number of days, or when deleted from your Deleted Items folder.

    For IMAP
For your Incoming Server, if you select SSL for Use the following type of encrypted connection, use port 993. If you do not have SSL enabled, use port 143. For your Outgoing Server, whether or not you select SSL, you can use port 25, 80, or 3535.
  12. Click OK.
  13. (Optional) You can click Test Account Settings to verify your settings and make sure that your Outlook can connect with the information you entered.
  14. Click Next and then click Finish.
